Whenever we make, we make with the world. Craft is a conversation. No making takes place in a vacuum. In making, we affirm our place in the web of material things. Craft recognizes our relationship with the world and our impact on it as one that sustains and maintains. It is an ecological act, and a form of care. Conversely, care is a craft. Caring for a loved one or tending a garden takes regular attention and a sustained practice. This became all the more clear when the pandemic hit and we collectively became acutely aware of the significance of essential workers and of what their work entails and demands of them. To care is to reach out, and in sustaining such a practice we are, as with craft, engaged in the fabric of the world. Care is craft, is care, is craft, is care...
