Tropos (Exotropos and Tropeis)
2021
Video installation
Linen curtain and petals from the video projection
231.5 / 130 cm / 91 x 51 inches ; 4:34 and 11:11
The two videos in Tropos (“to turn”) show one action filmed from opposite perspectives. In one video, Exotropos (“outside turn”), petals strewn on a linen cloth are thrown into motion by a body wriggling and writhing below. In the other, Tropeis (“into the turn”), the same fabric and petals are viewed from the point of view of the body underneath. In Exotropos, time is set backwards; in Tropeis, it is slowed down. As you move from one side of the installation to the other, I invite you to consider your own tactile experiences and the ways in which cause and effect manifests in your life. Tropos asks, how are you thrown into motion by the things you encounter, or by the things that carry you? How does the air, activated by your gesture, affect the projection? How does your movement mimic the movement of the petals?
